ABOUT NERVES

In Tantra, there is a practice of getting in touch with the flow of energy inside your body. With practice, many people can learn to feel a flow of energy inside them and to circulate it in the body. The energy is called Kundalini. Practitioners say they can feel it move along certain channels and gather in pools in certain areas the body. The pools, which are mapped vertically through the torso and head, are called chakras (pronounced SHOCK-rahs).

What does this have to do with the prostate? The prostate is said to be connected to the root chakra in men. The root chakra is located just below the prostate and it is the seat of Kundalini. This is significant because the way to have a full-body orgasm is to draw the Kundalini energy up from the root chakra and circulate it throughout the body.

We spoke with Jan Robinson, a Certified Ipsalu Tantra Kriya Yoga Instructor, about the relationship of the prostate to the root chakra, and she explained that because of the prostate’s connection to this chakra, “when [a man’s] prostate is stimulated, either directly or indirectly, his root energy gets stimulated too.”

She also explained that this usually doesn’t happen with traditional intercourse, unless the fellow is involved in Tantric practices : “One of the drawbacks for a man in conventional sexual intercourse is that his root chakra [typically] does not get stimulated. This means his Kundalini […] the energy of evolutionary consciousness, the source of supercharged full-body orgasm, is not awakened.”

There are Tantra techniques to activate the root chakra and bring the energy up the body that don’t involve prostate massage but rather breathing, meditation, or muscular contractions. But prostate massage is a great way to do it too!

It’s also interesting to note that this idea that prostate stimulation can stimulate the root energy, awakening the Kundalini and allowing for full-body orgasms, is quite consistent with what men commonly say about prostate stimulation: that it tends to feel  more full-bodied than cock play alone and can feel like waves coursing through the body.

Here is one interesting possible explanation for this: some have suggested that the chakras correspond to the nerve plexuses, such as the pelvic plexus, that run vertically through the torso.

THE MIND–BODY CONNECTION

Unfortunately, many of us get so used to carrying negative emotions that we are no longer aware of them or of the tensions they create in our bodies. This is especially common for men, since a lot of guys have come to believe that having  or expressing feelings isn’t masculine.

THE MIND–BODY CONNECTION

Acknowledging and talking about negative emotions clears the air.
