Today, we’re talking about storytelling
If you want your content to perform better, you need to learn how to tell better stories.
So in this video, I’m going to walk through my 6 favorite storytelling techniques that will massively improve your content After watching this, I guarantee you will think differently about the way you write scripts & make videos.
Btw, I’m Kallaway…I’ve pulled over a billion views from short-form videos, 500K followers, and I study this stuff all day long.
Alright, let’s dive in.
Tip # 1 is what I call the Dance.
All great stories are like a dance between context and conflict.
You give a little context… something happens the characters are on a mission, and then bam…out of nowhere some unforeseen conflict.
You give more context to resolve that first conflict… but then oh no…another conflict.
This dance is how you keep the viewer locked in.
Conflicts create open loops in the brain… context helps close those loops.
Now the best explanation I’ve ever seen for how to implement this dance technique tactically is from Matt Stone & Trey Parker at an NYU lecture.
These were the guys that created South Park.
Watch this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGUNqq3/VLg&t=64s (play the clip from 0:48 - 1:45)
So tactically, it’s as simple as using the words “but and therefore” within your script consistently to create those open conflict loops.
If you’re using the word “and”, it will feel like piling on and quickly become uninteresting to the viewer.
If you look at one of my best performing videos and we just play it, you’ll notice there are 4 (but then) moments in the first 30 seconds.

Alternatively, if you show them a visual that maps to what you’re saying, their brain will process it much faster. Somebody that is really great at this is my friend Kevin, who runs Epic Gardening. (https://www.instagram.com/p/C7PK8rDv9d2/) If you watch his videos, he shows the visuals immediately and they really help reinforce what he’s saying. Like this one about strawberries. Before I hear him speak, I know the video is something about strawberries. If I like strawberries, I’m going to watch and see what he says. Something I’ve been doing in my own videos is sliding super clear text on the screen that says what the punch line of the video is. (Show one of my recent videos doing this - https://www.instagram.com/ree/C67C48WyDLW/ I’ve noticed this has been super helpful in retaining views. So when you’re thinking about your hook…get to the point, and show while you tell. Alright that’s it for this one.
